Licence Plate Saw a licence plate in a hotel parking lot In the middle of the prairies covered in winter frost Must be passing through or out looking for a job Could be running from their past or the long arm of the law They headed out west as I did long ago From the same place that I used to know Driving an old rusted car with a sticker out of date On a familiar old worn out licence plate Now folks they travel from near and from far Some just stay right where they are Either made their way out or just settled down Sometimes wonder just where they are now A broke down car on the side of the road Folks in the shadows their stories left untold Could be the victims of less fortunate fates Or maybe doing time making licence plates Seen a licence plate I hadn't seen in years A young crusader onto new frontiers Not the first nor the last to have left it all behind A long way from home high lonesome state of mind From there to here many places I have been Someday when I'm ready I'll head back again My travelling shoes feeling a little worn When I see a licence plate from the place where I was born

Us Two 03:31
Us Two When I was a young man With a heart full of dreams I met this beautiful girl Prettiest I'd ever seen Indian summer night Queen and University She smiled and I said hello She gave her number to me We talked late on the phone I really loved her style Organic personality Last I'd meet for awhile She had long silky hair And all the right curves I looked into her pretty eyes Said I really like you girl I remember so well Middle of September Walking holding hands We spent the night together (Bridge:) Long ago way back when Once upon a short while Those few precious moments They were our place in time Do you remember those days? As I sometimes do Those are long gone days When it was us two

1983 02:05
1983 If I could go back To any given time I'll tell you when And exactly why I was a young boy We moved to the city Exciting and new Full of possibility If I could relive This life of mine I'd return to That Innocent time Simpler world In a better place Life was easy For a kid anyway Not that I'd remain Suspended in time It's when I'd resume If I hit rewind Rode our bikes We played outside The water was clean The air seemed fine As I look back now One thing comes to mind It's apparent to me We need to simplify If could choose When it would be I'd be seven years old In 1983

Old Friend 04:42
Old Friend Some can't help but walk away When you think need them most The chosen few that still remain Hold them dear and keep them close The ones who take the time Upon whom you can depend Despite mistakes and misgivings They stand by you in the end Time tested tried and true Earn your trust and your respect Ceaselessly have come through Lent a hand, pay compliments In turn they'll remember you Some you don't ever forget Paths separated long ago Return when you least expect A troubled mind leads to self doubt Second nature to second guess Reassurance to remind First Instinct should serve one best Quick hellos, or congratulation Guiding hands to extend Consolation to provide Comes naturally from an old friend

about

The original working title of this record was "...And One Time At Camp Copperhead". Here's why...
Inspired by a week long songwriting workshop deep in the Catskills mountain region of upstate NY, near Woodstock. This special week was hosted and taught by songwriting master and life long hero, Steve Earle.
The idea was to write a collection of songs using pointers, techniques, and inspiration acquired from Camp, while absorbing the organic aura of both the Catskills region (where Bob Dylan & The Band once recorded the famous Basement Tapes, and later home to Levon Helm's Barn Studio), while identifying, studying/ borrowing ideas from the framework of such influential artists' work.
It was also simply about creating organic art for the sake of creating art, with honest integrity, and not writing to serve other's (especially corporate) expectations or formatic rules.
Album was written within 2 weeks beginning and following Camp Copperhead, in July 2014.
Recorded in roughly the same amount of time as it took to write, from mid Sept -late Oct. 2014, in New Westminster, BC at Alchemy Sound Studio, Produced by Scott Young.
